Frequently Asked Questions

If you’re considering hypnotherapy, you may have a few questions - here are some of the most common ones.

I’m ready for change. What do I do next? Simply complete the Contact Form and give me a brief outline of what you’d like to work on, including your email address and phone number. Once I’ve received your message, I’ll send you a text to arrange a convenient time for your free 20-minute discovery call. During this call, we’ll discuss your goals in more detail, explore how hypnotherapy can help, and give you the opportunity to ask any questions you may have. I’ll also email you a copy of our hypnotherapy contract for your perusal, and if you’re happy to go ahead, we’ll confirm and book your first session.

What payment methods are available? You can pay by cash or bank transfer in advance. Full payment details are included in the therapy contract, which I’ll email to you before your first session is confirmed.

How does hypnosis feel? Hypnosis is a deeply relaxing and natural state of mind. Whilst everyone experiences hypnosis in their own unique way, it is best described as a pleasant, enjoyable, almost euphoric state of peace – for many a welcome release from anxiety, worry and other negative emotions.

Can you be hypnotised against your will? No, hypnosis is not mind control and you can’t be made to do anything against your will. You just need to be willing and open to the idea of hypnosis.

Will hypnotherapy work for me? As with all forms of therapy, individual results can vary and there are no guarantees of success. Indeed, it would be unethical of me to guarantee success as that would imply that I can gain power over your mind. Hypnotherapy works in partnership with your own motivation and willingness to change, and outcomes depend on everyone’s unique circumstances. All payments are made in respect of my time, expertise, and professional service as a hypnotherapist – not on the basis of a guaranteed resolution or specific result.

Can anyone be hypnotised? Many people wonder if they are capable of being hypnotised and yes, you can be because hypnosis is a state of focus and attention that occurs naturally, providing you are willing. It’s about being receptive and open to the experience.

Will I lose control during hypnosis? Many people worry they’ll lose control, reveal secrets, or cluck like a chicken! Let’s clear these myths up. Hypnosis is a deeply relaxed state of focus – like daydreaming. You’re always in control. You can hear everything, and you won’t do or say anything you don’t want to. Hypnosis is safe and effective. Hypnosis is nothing to fear.

How do I book my first session? You can call me on 07774 666541 for a free 20-minute discovery call consultation. Alternatively, you can use the contact form on the website or email me at melissa.newyouhypnosis@gmail.com , whichever feels best for you. I will aim to respond within 24 hours, at which point we can arrange your first session appointment at an available time to suit you.

How many sessions will I need? There are no hard and fast rules, as every client and every issue is unique. Treatment plans are bespoke, and while considerable improvements are often noticed quickly, the number of sessions required will vary. During your free 20-minute discovery call, we’ll discuss your goals and agree on an outline plan tailored to your needs. As a general guide, most issues benefit from a minimum of three sessions. For weight loss — my area of specialism — and other habit-related concerns, I usually recommend four sessions. In my experience, a four-session package allows suggestions to be fully embedded, helping to break old habits and emotional associations. It also aligns well with the natural 28-day cycle typically required to establish new, lasting habits.

Am I asleep during hypnosis? No, you’re not asleep and you’re not unconscious. Hypnosis is a completely natural state of focused attention. You’re fully in control at all times and know exactly where you are.
